About Me
Profile
I am HPCSA registered clinical psychologist, accredited psychotherapy supervisor, provider for professional continuous education and hypnotherapist. I have over twenty years of experience as a psychotherapist and fifteen years of experience as a supervisor. Currently I am in a private practice with Dr Benn & Associates at the ADDnova Clinic in Blairgowrie. I am also an accredited yoga teacher.
My professional career began with a psychology degree in 1988 in Yugoslavia. Over the next two years I completed cognitive-behavior training by University of Oxford, Department of Psychiatry, UK and a one year systemic family therapy course by Cardiff Family Institute, UK.
Subsequently, I immigrated to South Africa, and completed HPCSA requirements to register as a clinical psychologist and accepted a post at Coronation Hospital. In 1994 HPCSA recognized my previous experience and accredited me as a senior psychologist. Between 1994 and 2000 I was responsible for supervision of UNISA and RAU (now UJ) clinical interns.
I secured two more posts for Coronation psychology department, initiated building and opening of Coronation Systemic Family Therapy Clinic and got accrediation from the Professional Board of Psychology for a year placement of psychology interns. Between 1997 and 2000 I was a head of Coronation psychology department.
In 2000 I completed PhD in Medical Psychology from the University of South Africa, resigned from Coronation Hospital and joined ADDnova Clinic.
I presented papers and workshops at world congresses in Israel, Norway, South Africa, Hungary, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Iceland, India, Portugal, China and Russia. I’ve been a guest speaker on SABC and have been quoted in the press (Life Magazine, Fair Lady, Destiny, The Yoga Teachers Fellowship).
I presented at the world transpersonal congress in Delhi, India and Moscow, Russia. I am currently serving as an executive board member of the International Transpersonal Association (check website: http://www.transpersonalassociation.org).
I would describe myself as curious, practical and passionate. To support my own sense of well-being I practice regular yoga, meditation, gym and hiking. I also guide holisitic stress management retreats and teach yoga, meditation and breathing techniques specifically designed for anxious and ADHD clients.

Payment & Cancellation Policy
The 2012 fee is R 750 for 60 minute session of psychotherapy. Payment must be done in cash and at the end of each session. Most medical insurances refund around R 730 for a session. 24 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment, otherwise full fee is charged.
Generally speaking, I would see clients once a week or once every two weeks. For clients that have difficulty taking time off work hours, I have early morning or late evening appointments available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you are interested in starting psychotherapy please give me a call. I see clients for one hour and after the first session you can decide whether you want to take things further or not. I believe that a good match of personalities is very important to the outcome of psychotherapy therefore it is important that you only commit yourself to further sessions with me if you think I am the right person for you. If not, I am very happy to suggest colleagues who may suit you better.
Testimonials
E.H. (45 year old, male, individual therapy):
“I was very nervous with my first visit, but I had the courage to go back and I liked your professional approach. I feel that you guided me particularly well to discover what I battled with and how I could change things or how I should approach specific situations. There were numerous times that something just all of a sudden fell into place, or clicked, while I was talking to you. It is as if I worked through things after discussions with you and while giving you feedback during a next session, I all of a sudden realized something that I have not noticed before, or I realized that something has changed because of a different perspective I have. Other times you would say something that was so spot on that it immediately triggered a realization. I would like to sincerely thank you for your honesty, but also directness, without being harsh. For allowing me, to be very honest and share things with you that I never would have dreamt of to share with anyone, because it sometimes felt like episodes from a soap opera. For guiding me - to make peace with who I am, and to accept my qualities as strong points rather than weak points because it is different than the norm. And finally, for making me aware of so many things that I can build on in future and to equip me to deal with situations that normally made me panic”.
C. N. (48 years old, couple therapy):
“When my husband and I went to see Zana we were on the verge of separating. At our first session we were both a bit sullen and too angry with each other to really be receptive to counseling. But Zana’s easy manner soon helped us to relax and we started to open up – to her and to each other. Her counseling was practical, direct but not harsh – and very revealing. Even after more than 20 years of marriage, we learned things about each other that helped us towards better understanding and tolerance of each other’s personal characteristics. Zana helped us to develop skills for overcoming obstacles and my husband and I rediscovered our love for each other. By spending more quality time together and handling conflict in a constructive manner, we have a positive, secure marriage that provides a safe haven against the daily onslaughts of life”.
Prof T. V. (mother of A., 9 years old, child therapy):
“ Our son, A., was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) some years back, and as with many children in his position, he still struggled to verbalize his feelings and to control his emotions and frustrations. Obviously as parents, we felt that it was important to put interventions in place to help and teach him how to communicate his feelings and how to control outbursts of emotions that does not only affect him, but our entire family. Dr Zana systematically equipped A. with tools to ensure that he can better communicate his feelings, whether good and bad, and that he can work through issues of frustrations, rather than bottled it up. We were able to further explore these open communications channels with Dr Zana as parents and apply this in everyday family life. Thank you Dr Zana, for your care and for the positive way in which you helped A. learn how to unlock so many emotions within him. Most positive for me as his mom is the extent to which he openly shares all the love in his heart. It was a privilege to share this process with you”.
